Meet the Expert: Angie

Originally from Western Canada, Angie has been a member of the Hacienda de Sol family for many years.  She currently shares her expertise and experience as yoga teacher, practitioner, and wellness facilitator. After attending her very first yoga class at Hacienda del Sol back in 2003, and this launched her love of the practice and led her to her first 200 hour yoga teacher training here as well.  While living in Vancouver Canada in 2008, Angie attended a Kundalini Yoga class with Gloria Latham and she found her true path.   She completed a second 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Semperviva Yoga in Vancouver and started teaching a few months later.  Kundalini has been, and continues to be a magical journey for Angie, with no “end goal”; it is all about the journey – just like in life. Meet the Expert: Menlha

Menlha Bruneau – founder, Hacienda del Sol I have been involved in health and healing for many years.  It has been a prime interest to me to be well and to help others also be well, holistically.  I am the founder of Hacienda del Sol and of the Kootenay school of Rebalancing bodywork. This school certified over 350 students to practice rebalancing body therapy. I am a rebalancing bodywork master and have been practicing craniosacral (biodynamic) treatment for several years. For over 10 years at Hacienda del Sol we have been hosting juice cleanses, and I have been the facilitator for many of them.  I have done a number of cleanses myself over the years and keep up my own cleanliness with 2 personal cleanses a year at Hacienda del Sol. These cleanses are highly successful here thanks to the relaxed environment offered by immersion in nature, strong facilitation, constant support, detox-specific juices, and colema therapy. What is TRX, Anyway?

We are currently the only wellness centre in all of central and south america offering the programming we do.  Not only does our all inclusive Core Wellness program encompass everything to make a stay with us sublime and muy saludable (very healthy), but it’s our unique combination of Juice Detoxes, Raw Food Culinary Education, and Mindful Fitness that really stands us apart from the crowd.  This past season we began offering a new wellness enhancement to our  regime, introducing TRX Personal Training Sessions to the list! What is TRX Suspension Training? Born in the Navy SEALs, this type of bodyweight exercise was created by Navy SEAL Squadron Commander, Randy Hetrick as a way to maintain peak physical condition while on deployment.  TRX is a training tool that develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously, leveraging gravity and the user’s body weight to complete hundreds of exercises.  Although it’s a fairly simple concept, TRX is a full-body strength workout that is highly beneficial for endurance athletes and fitness newbies alike. Meet the Expert: Chef Meg

Meg is an international raw chef & intuitive food educator, hailing from Toronto and residing in Costa Rica.  She is also a certified yoga teacher, cookbook author, and retired television producer and director, who came to her career in wellness after a storied past life of alcohol abuse, anorexia, and bulimia. While most of her culinary chops stem from experiments in her own kitchen, Meghan has certified with Alissa Cohen’s Raw Teacher program and has also done trainings with Matthew Kenney in California, Natalia Rose in New York City, and is a certified Professional Plant-Based chef with Rouxbe Culinary School.  Meg is resident Raw Food Chef and Culinary Educator at Hacienda del Sol, and runs monthly Raw Culinary Class Retreats while also overseeing the kitchen and restaurant during large group bookings, developing new recipe and special menu items, and coaching guests and locals on the benefits of living foods.  She also guest chefs at various other restaurant and health retreat centres throughout Central America. Oh, Canada… I recently ventured off on a whirlwind tour of North America, and as much as I adore and admire all the beauty and bounty that my life here in Costa Rica offers, it is still quite nice to venture back to my roots, especially at this special time of year when summer begins to turn into fall.
